Hitotetohi Project
Hitotetohi
~ East Japan Disaster Recovery Charity Candle Night Event ~
Hitotetohi Project is
People, hands and fire
On the 11th of march 2011 when the great east Japan grand earthquake happened, I was in my glass workshop in Itabashi-ku.
I remember I spent the night being anxious when the big tremor occurred and the aftershock seemed to last forever.
Thinking about this disaster I hoped that Tohoku would recover as quickly as the great Hanshin earthquake that happened in Kobe in 1995.
I wondered if I could helped in this kind of situation as an artist who makes things, I wondered if I would be of any help in the reconstruction somehow…
Immediately after the disaster, many people lit candles when the electricity was scarce. Even if one candle is a small source of light, when a lot of people gather together it then can make something powerful.
This is where the “Hitotetohi Project” come from, the idea is to gather all together with candlelights and help at the recovery of the damaged areas.
